Every year, Jeep aficionados head to Moab, Utah for the Easter Jeep Safari, to conquer one of the most challenging trails in the world. This year, attendees were in for a treat thanks to six Jeep concepts including the Mighty FC Concept. The folks over at Motor Trend were at the event and produced the following video featuring the Mighty FC Concept.
The Jeep Mighty FC Concept is a throwback to the originally Willys Forward Control, which was in production from 1956 to 1965. Not only does the concept win us over by tugging at our nostalgic heart strings, but it’s completely modern and more than capable on the trails of Moab.
If you like what you see, send your thank you letters to head of Jeep design Mark Allen. While it may be difficult to tell from the exterior, Allen says the Mighty FC Concept began life as a Jeep Wrangler. His team used components sourced from Jeep Authentic Parts and Accessories to achieve the FC’s signature stance where the cab sits atop the front wheels. Inside, the Wrangler roots are evident, aside from the plaid seats (sourced from a snowboard bag) and the absence of a hood when looking out the windshield.
Joining the concept is a 1964 Jeep Forward Control with a rare crew cab configuration. It’s powered by a two-stroke, supercharged three-cylinder diesel, which is obvious from its rickety engine note and trail of black soot coming from the exhaust.
